One week on - and she's eating out of my hand

Well ... Very nearly!!!! Haha

Today Polly has had a good day. She has been more vocal and active today and clambering around her cage. I still can't coax her out of her cage, but she's willing to now eat millet spray that I offer her - see photos .... Progress??

I have now decided to keep her downstairs as I want her to be involved in as much as possible. A new cage is on the way too. Probably not the best idea to keep chopping and changing but you don't really know how it's all going to go until you experience life with a parrot! I'm very used to looking after T-Bone, Charlie and Herman but its trying to work out the best day to day details and routine that works for you.

Anyway - that's Polly's first week. I'll update occasionally from now on with milestones, etc.

Polly enjoys the garden

Here is Polly enjoying some fresh air out in the garden this afternoon with me. She enjoyed watching the seagulls and had a little chat with them

Day 4 - watching the raindrops

Polly flew to my shoulder tonight! She had a lovely time downstairs in her cage watching us all and then I came back upstairs, opened her cage, put on her video that she likes of herself talking and within 5 minutes she was out! She then flew to my shoulder after a bit and stayed there a couple of minutes. I don't think she meant to land on me but it felt like real progress! She sat by the window overlooking the street for a while, watching the raindrops. She's currently on my window pelmet so I will have to try and get her back in her cage now it's dark.

Polly is out her cage!

It's 8 pm ... Polly's just come out of her cage! It was quite sweet really ... Jon came up to see her and she got really excited, flapped about a bit and then came out her cage, hurrah! She flew around a bit, (badly!) flew to the window, flapped a lot more, sat down on the window sill a couple of feet away from me, flew down and hid in the flower pot and then flew and settled on top of the door. She looks quite happy and so nice for her to be free

Polly day 3

Polly doesn't want to come out of her cage still. I bought her a bath and she doesn't show any interest in that either. She likes her toys and food but is still too shy to interact and doesn't want to do target training, so I'm just sat near her so she gets used to me a bit before I try again. Bless her. She's. so pretty just shy.

Polly Day 2

As you can see, I already had second thoughts about her name. She looks too beautiful to be a Dave. So ... Sophie named her Polly and I think that's a lovely name!

I have tonight started target training Polly and so far she is doing well. I can see she is accepting me already. She doesn't shy away from me in her cage, but she did when Sophie came up to see her. She is still very wary and won't come out her cage (it's been open for 5 hours!) but I'm sure she will soon. After all, she's only been here a day so far.

This is a photo I took of her tonight with her cage door open. Isn't she lovely? I do hope she will be a happy parrot.
