Today I brought home a beautiful cockatiel!

Today started off a sunny bright day and we decided to go and look at a bird specialist shop not too far away, just for bits n bobs. Haha! How could I not fall in love with all those beautiful creatures! I was really smitten with a beautiful pair of primrose cockatiels in particular, after all I have been toying with the idea of getting my very own cockatiel for some while ...

Well I did indeed come away with a beautiful primrose cinnamon pearl cockatiel - aged 8 weeks - and a secondhand cockatiel cage. She is absolutely stunning with the most beautiful primrose coloured feathers and a delicate almost lace-like pattern on her back. She has little pink feet and a pale beak with big round bright eyes. A sweet but lovely looking baby. The pet shop owners had bred her and told me she was from a nest of about 5 and although they didn't know her hatch date, she is 8 weeks - so I will give her a dob of about 15 May.

She was in a cage of 2 young cockatiels - the other one had more grey on his body and although he was beautiful too, I decided I would like the more yellow of the two. So she was taken from her brother/sister and whisked away and put in a carry box which I held protectively all the way home. (I still feel so mean separating her from her sibling). We took her home with an assortment of toys, etc and placed the cage in my bedroom so that she could have some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle that is family life. We decorated her cage with the assortment of toys, food and water and left her to it. She emerged from her carry box which we had opened and placed in her cage and sat on the open box for a little while, keeping quite still and quiet, obviously wondering what was going on; why was she in a new cage and a new environment? We spoke gently to her and gave her some time to be quiet and undisturbed although did spend a lot of the afternoon with her.

She had a little flap about around 8 pm and I wondered if she was a little frightened and missed her little friend , but she soon settled down again and even had a little look round her cage and eat food and millet.

So, that was day one with my new little friend. I have decided to call her "Dave". Don't ask me why; I just think its a fun name for a pet!

I am really looking forward to getting to know this little creature and making her feel welcome and wanted. Thank you T-Bone!
